Get to Know Me

Hi. I'm Leda. As a technical writer, I used to turn jumbled mountains of words into ordered and engaging documents. But in early 2023, I decided I needed a more creative outlet. I also wanted to help people. While waiting for career inspiration, I reorganized my home office. And then I started to declutter and reorganize the rest of the house. After several months, much research, and a lot of difficult keep-or-let-go-of decisions, my home was much neater and more functional, but I was no closer to finding my creative calling.

My home reorganization unearthed a lot of family photos and memorabilia, much of it from my mother’s early years. Since my mom was recently deceased, I decided to chronical her life in a photobook. While planning the pages, I realized that I also needed to include narration, stories, letters, and family recipes. The result was an heirloom-quality memory book that illustrated each phase of her life along with related narrative and stories.

Decluttering and reorganizing my home taught me that even though most of what I owned held emotions and meaning, I could let go of a lot of things without losing important memories. As with my house reorganization, creating the memory book taught me that I didn’t need to include every image I had of my mother to capture who she was.

I created Joyful Home Organizing to help others who may, like me, need to pare down, reorganize, and simplify, on their journey to the next phase of life, whatever it may be.
